Supporting Families Through Sensory & Emotional Understanding

Supporting Families Through Sensory & Emotional Understanding

Reflections on Recent Workshops at St Ives Public and Forestville Montessori

Over the past week, I had the privilege of delivering my workshop, “Regulate My Child: An Occupational Therapist’s Guide to Sensory Processing, Emotional Regulation, and Practical Strategies,” to the wonderful communities at St Ives Public School and Forestville Montessori School.

Across these sessions, I presented to more than 50 engaged parents, educators, and allied health professionals — all committed to deepening their understanding of emotional regulation and sensory processing, and how to support the children in their lives with practical, evidence-based strategies.

This brings the total number of participants who have now attended Regulate My Child to over 100 — and the feedback continues to be humbling and consistent.

Bridging Understanding Through Practical Knowledge

The workshop explores:

  • How sensory processing impacts a child’s behaviour and emotional state
  • What is developmentally appropriate emotional regulation
  • How to identify and manage behavioural triggers
  • Practical tools for both home and classroom environments

Whether attendees are parents navigating daily routines, teachers managing busy classrooms, or therapists supporting neurodiverse children, they consistently share how helpful, relevant, and empowering the content is.

“You gave the best rundown of sensory processing I’ve ever heard.”
“Delivered in a way that doesn’t place blame — it helps you understand your kids and yourself.”
“I left feeling empowered.”

Growing Demand from Schools and Centres

Both St Ives Public and Forestville Montessori have invited me back to run evening sessions for more families — a strong indication of just how valued this type of support and education is.

And it’s growing.

This Thursday evening, I’ll be presenting Regulate My Child at Bilgola Plateau Public School, with Billy Kids Pymble and other centres lined up in the coming weeks.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

If you’re part of a school, early learning centre, or health practice looking to better support families through a deeper understanding of emotional regulation and sensory needs, I’d love to connect.

I’m excited to keep building this movement — empowering families and professionals with the tools to help children thrive.
